Revolutions DVDs Now Available! Learn to teach SEN pupils in your area!

Excel Academy has just released the first two DVDs in its ‘Revolutions’ collection, with a third one in production and new ones due to be filmed shortly.

These DVDs, presented and directed by Julia Malkin MBE, are the only DVDs available in the UK which cover special needs tuition for driving instructors.

They are designed to complement training from Excel Academy, can be used for buddying and reference purposes, and are available to purchase for £18 each.  All follow the layout of an actual ‘Revolutions’ course and follow on from one to the next in a logical sequence using clear, simple language.

DVDs for ADI Part 3 training now available from Excel Academy!

Due to demand, Excel Academy is now producing DVDs to help PDIs with their training.  You can help yourself get a green badge in your windscreen with our training DVDs, presented and directed by Julia Malkin MBE.

The first one includes fault finding, the 4 areas of fault correction, the identification, analysis and the Excelsior 5-phase remedial procedure followed by summarising.

The second  DVD will be covering the instructor’s talk-through techniques. Further DVDs will include briefings, planning and lesson control before the skills are then linked together in PSTs for ADI Part 3.

All are filmed on-road with a true live PDI and are directed at helping the viewer learn techniques in driving instruction.  With these techniques you too could get yourself a 5:5 like my PDI below did!

Developing Driving Simulators – Project with the University of Nottingham – Funding approved!

The University of Nottingham has recently called upon the services of Julia Malkin MBE to help with their driving simulators in the Department of Psychology.

With two Professors of Psychology, several electronics lecturers, engineering technicians, 16 computers, many programmers and a little help from a Mini, two driving simulators have been built at the University…by everyday drivers, for everyday drivers.  But – what about learning to drive – and learning to drive with autism?

With this in mind, Julia was contacted by the University to road-test the simulators, to gain perspectives both from the viewpoint of a driving instructor and from the viewpoint of a pupil on the autistic spectrum.  There were many points observed by Julia that the University professors had not taken into account with simulators – the use of imagination, for example, the difference in real controls and simulated controls and speedometer accuracy.

The University, after using Julia’s name and Excel Academy’s backup, has now succeeded in gaining further funding for this project, with the objective of making driving and learning on a simulator accessible to all!
